On March 25th, I was blessed to celebrate the first ever Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form (sometimes called the “Traditional Latin Mass”) at my parish of St. Michael the Archangel. I had been informally celebrating a Low Mass each week for a small group of people, but decided to try to do something big for this major feast day. Almost 400 people attended… at 5:00 on a weekday! Amazing.
I had participated in the Solemn form of the Latin Mass before, but this was my first time as the celebrant. It turns out that celebrant in the Solemn Mass actually has the easiest job. The deacon and subdeacon take care of most everything and the master of ceremonies makes sure you’re always where you’re supposed to be. It was a true joy to celebrate with my brother priests and so many of the faithful. I am grateful for all those who attended and helped to make this Mass possible.
As a surprise, a local Catholic benefactor who owns a photography company heard about the Mass and sent two of his professional wedding photographers to photograph the Mass. The pictures turned out beautifully. Please follow the link below to see them all. Also, I created a video with English translation and other titles. I hope this will be a helpful introduction to those who might not be familiar with the Latin Mass. Enjoy the pictures and video. May our Lady be honored and God be glorified.
