Matty’s Room
Along with coming to dedicate the memorials, Matty’s mom and brothers also came for the rather sad task of packing up Matty’s room. I spent so many hours in this room talking with Matty. There were of course other times when there might have been a dozen people in this small room. This was truly a special place. I still want to go down the hall and knock on his door when I need someone to talk to. Packing everything up was really difficult. Matty’s room is sort of a shrine to Matty. It really reflects him. Those of you that have been here know this well. We worked on packing from Wednesday evening until this morning. Guys driving back to KC will be taking boxes of Matty’s stuff with them for quite a while. We loaded what we could into Matty’s car so Jason and Richard could drive it home. At about 11:00 this morning, the Matty mobile left Mundelein for the last time. For those of you who haven’t been up to visit, as well as those who have, enjoy the pictures.

He invited me to spend some time here on my visit… still hits me at weird times.God bless Shawn; sorry I won’t see you at Brandon’s diaconate.
I never made the opportunity to visit Matty at Mundelein. His room there looks similar to how he decorated every other room I’ve seen of his. Seeing PoPo’s coat hanging on the door made me remember when Matty first wore it… Thanks for sharing the pictures of Matty’s seminary home.

Thank you for sharing Mattys room, I always wondered how it looked. No surprise at how neat and tiddy it was, the books, and many religous objects. I am very greatful to see what his room was like, I only wish we could have visited him there. Than you! Tricia
I feel for you. This reminded me of going to pack up my brothers college dorm room after he was killed. And then when I went to the university, I was in the same room, just two floors below his – it always felt like I should be able to pop in and see him. Prayers!
Shawn-
Man, his room is soooo “Matty”. And like Matthew said, it looks pretty much like any other place he lived. I especially like the last picture you posted of him. What a beautiful presence he had….you can really see it in that picture. Thank you, Shawn. Peace, Chris
I loved the pics of Matty’s room and Shawn I am looking forward to the day I can come back to St. Mary’s in Mundelien and visit you. The last time I was there was for the Institue on Religious Life back in April. Spending time in the chapel was comforting as well as a transforming experience for me. Ironically enough, it was the day JP2 entered into eternity. Had I known you back then, I would have spent time with you and Matty. Peace and all good! I wish Matty was here so I could comment on his San Damiano Cross! ~Lauren
You know… The three of us would have made a fun little team don’t ya think? I sit back and think – hmmm what would it be like if you, me, and Matty went out for an evening… I hope everyone knows all that you have done for him and the Molnars since his passing – You are such a great guy, and really are going to make some Priest!!! Speaking of … You haven’t forgotten my promise have you?
